Strolls At Sunrise

A Poem by Lauren Madsen

Will you?
His expectant tone
and curious brows
tug at my heart,
my tired body
silently protesting

I will, of course

but the walk will never long feel enough--
it never does

Side by side we begin retracing
our morning steps
as sun’s first rays splay out
through parted clouds
like God’s fingers
blessing the day ahead

with all His promises

and possibilities

Soon enough we will see home
and wish for more,
more time for talking
and listening and dreaming
so many words left
to say.
