The Ultimate Light

A Poem by Emily Barrus

The scrawny branches

as bare as my heart,

the heavy snow,

mere moments from crumbling,

all the true and good,

so many seek solace in this season —

heartbreak, loss,

unbearable worry, searing pain…

how can these days

be filled with such light and hope?

the ultimate light and reason for the season

shines ever so brightly,

nothing can stop

His light from shining

no matter how many shattered pieces

in this heart of mine;

His light will always find a way in.
