Illuminating the Way

A Poem by Emily Barrus

The frosty windowpane

beckons a sweet refrain,

fresh air and snow angels,

this land covered in white,

glittering in the morning light,

carries the utmost joy

and despair,

hope for all that could be,

sorrow for the no longer —

A desolate place

perfect to burrow

away from the noise and chatter,

time to reflect, waning,

running seemed the sweetest recourse.

He has been pursuing me ever since,

illuminating the way back home,

the wonderment of this wintry retreat

was compulsory

in the depths of the soul —

New beginnings,

fresh starts,

His are never ending towards me.

How good He is to me,

my Light,

my Guide,

my All.
