A Poem by Alexis Ragan

I want to be symphonious.

I long to bounce on waves united,

with every tribe, nation, and tongue

colliding in harmony on high —

Right now, though, I am untuned and hiding

with a mouth too quiet and shy to fly

into the communal echoes that run

to brother drums and mother trumpets

as praise assembles, fragrance arises.

“It won't matter what key you are in

when you simply let go.”

and so, I do just that, I let myself go,

like one does when they glide on

the musical peaks of providence…

Suddenly, one singular sound swept over the temple

of me when the choir locked harps with heaven.

In pitch, we kissed the Son,

and hummed to our glory.
