Glow and Comfort

A poem by Amber North

Sometimes the break of dawn

fails to fulfill its mission

like in the winter when

it brings the light

but the warmth

feels oh so hidden.

Who can carry both

the glow and the comfort

especially when the darkness

feels like a damp heavy blanket?

It’s upon deep reflection

that I realize Christ

holds them both,

His light shines

with new mercies

and emits warmth

through His eternal love.

Christ always fulfills

His mission

He is the true

break of dawn for us

Now in this icy fixture

my mind doesn’t turn

to dismay,

because I remember

the bigger picture

in the numbness

and in the pain.

Christ is not seasonal,

His warmth and glow remain,

Even when the icicles

Overextend their stay

I keep on trudging along

on this snowy terrain

Knowing my God

Lights the way.

No break of dawn can

exist without Him

because He inaugurated

light into the day

So when I see

the dawn arise

I’ll know it’s a gift

inviting me

to hold on

and commune

with Him.
