No Darkness Has Power to Quench His Light

A Villanelle by Donna Bucher

Whatever comes, His presence is my sight.

Abandoned in shadows of suffering,

No darkness has power to quench His light.

Lonely heart within by fear gripped tight.

Lost in painful regret left despairing,

Whatever comes, His presence is my sight.

Cast away, left to wrestle in the night.

Caught in a maze of hopeless wandering,

No darkness has power to quench His light.

No way out though I search with all my might.

Help seems vain as my soul waits languishing,

Whatever comes, His presence is my sight.

Is there none to take pity on my plight?

Silence echoes, my heart to hope clinging,

No darkness has power to quench His light.

Once more my eyes I lift to lofty height,

And breathe a whispered prayer imploring:

Whatever comes, His presence is my sight,

No darkness has power to quench His light.
