A Poem by Kim Butler

1.

Something broke. Anger

cracked open new paths in the

forgotten corners

in my mind.

Groans escaped in silence

unable to catch my breath.

As tears ran down,

grief rushed over

lighting a fire

and burning my dreams away

(again).

How many times

will death come?

Will I make it through the fire

as ash or iron?

Darkness creeps in and covers the ground.

2.

From the ashes buds

are beginning to poke through

the rotting compost.

Scraps of my discarded life

fertilize the ground

watered by tears.

The rot and stench of bitterness

give way to an aroma

of flowered fields -

clothed lilies

among open daffodils.

May this offering

bear bittersweet fruit.

May the death of my dreams

give birth to yours.

Light reveals trust is the new landscape.
