Every Year

A Poem by Chinenye Onyedika

A new leaf falls and floats away

Many more appear throughout the day

As the crisp morning light comes out to play

The gentle breeze and glistening trees

Are subtle differences the season sees

As the light displays the autumn leaves

Every year the aroma comes around

Every year gratitude is abound

The thankfulness lost can always be found

It is almost over, yet it has just begun

When earth is tilted away from the sun

And the telephones ring much more than they’ve rung

Every year is the same as the last

With many great promises coming to pass

As autumn light shows the burdens were cast.
