Like the Light
A Poem by Joel Adcock
The Summer shade retreats
With the falling of leaves
I don’t delight in its shadow
Or crave its covering
I want the warmth of light
As the treetops thin
The solar glow pries itself in
Even through wooded horizon
As branches become bare
Are now a twigged window
The leaves become the sun
Amber flame and scarlet fire
A seasonal union
Sky and earth blend and become
I also long to be one
To be like the Light.
