Blessed Day

A Sonnet by Noah Bartley
Wintery wilderness, this barren slate;
I lavish layers just to char the chill.
Waiting and watching for dawn to break,
Longing to say, “At last!” and break it will.
The days grow short as night spreads its soot wings –
The scarce sun is only an acquaintance.
Yet winter graces glimpses of Spring
In the advent of humble radiance.
Western lights beckon me with temptations
To embark on the hopeless hunt for hope.
Eastern darkness bids me man my station
And find that hope will find me in Love’s scope.
Winter and wilderness will pass away,
Birthing an eternal spring. Blessed Day!
