Light of the World

A Poem by Kolten Slaughter

Before Your breath

The dead come to life-

And I forget about Heaven, Hell,

And my soul.

I no longer desire pleasure,

Wealth, or even my heart-

But Beauty- Beauty.

She is the resting place

Of Your heart

And the stars you set into

Our eyes,

The spark which

Lights the fire

So I can see.

The place where the

Birds are more than birds,

They are messengers of grace-

Or the wind sings a song

You hear in the silence

Of their whispers as

You hum.

As two lovers after their

Wedding lead me

Into the secret place-

That place where beauty is forged

And the dead come to life

Before Your breath

Where I am human,

I am whole.
