I Became A Vessel

A Poem by Pat Severin

This morning, things were different.

They truly weren’t the same,

for this had never happened.

God called me by my name.

I don’t mean it was audible,

but more like gentle urging,

yet there was no mistaking it,

His purpose, a clear surging...

Within me, I could feel it.

I knew what I should do.

Just like the Great Commission:

To share His word with you.

And so I did, as oft I do,

I wrote a Christian poem.

The words came pouring out of me

and I was not alone.

Yes, He was there beside me.

He helped me find the words.

I heard Him whisper in my ear

about what He observes...

Because He knows the things you need

to hear from Him through me.

He wanted me to tell you that

with you He’ll always be.

And most of all He wanted me

to tell you He loves you,

and never doubt that even when

this life may go askew.

That happens just to strengthen you

and make you turn to Him.

He’ll see you through, no matter what,

don’t let His light grow dim.

For He’s the Light, the Truth, the Way.

You can depend on that.

Ask what you need and even plead,

your problems He’ll combat.

So I'll conclude my poem and say

'Twas something new for me.

God chose me as His vessel

so His words could come to be.
