PLACES TO FIND LIGHT

A Poem by Courtney Moody

“Let there be—

[a baby’s first laugh.

The embrace of friends long parted.

A swan carrying cygnets down the lake.

The taste of tart pink lemonade on a summer’s dog day.

A Christmas star reaching up to Heaven.

The warm fragrance of home after a hurricane.

A deaf ear opening to hear mother’s voice.

The doctor’s calligraphy declaring remission.

A sanctuary overflowing with a forest of raised hands.]

—light.”
