Inevitable Light
A Poem by Joel Adcock
I’ve known this shadow too long.
It is familiar.
Like the cold in these bones,
and the bitter on my tongue.
But it is not eternal.
I was not meant to be
betrothed to the bleak.
This divorce is ordained.
Darkness is defined.
It is an absence itself.
Bound to the orbit of My Beloved.
Even life’s longest night,
is a slave.
Subject to the dawn.
Compliant to the coming light.
It cannot overcome His Life.
He is inevitable.
