Life Giver

A Poem by Carissa Early

only you can make this cage a cathedral

spires cutting flesh where I expand

and bloom

this lifeblood more than monotony

crimson whispers hope

only you can make a haven from a hollow

emptiness breathed into abundance

there is a legend—

a man enters the earth’s womb

returning as a reversal of all that haunts me

I limp toward him

palm on heart

arm cradling womb

in that bright place

none of us are forgotten
