All the Lilies

A Poem by Kristine Amundrud
Tears–collected and counted, are
carving floodplains from barren land.
For every kindred in the vale, I ask you:
Why must hearts, bodies, and a mind break?
In chaos of losing all held dear,
did you forget how to grow?
In the ravine, partly shaded,
did your spirit droop low?
In the gravity of utter depravity,
did rhizomes slink beneath snow?
Life’s divine dance of decay–
we grow, we bloom, we weep, and wither.
Winter fades. The Son delivers.
We gather courage and from pardoning crown,
we strive to burgeon again.
Tears are turning into white lilies.
A sign of second coming, triumphal
return to happiness.
My friend–soon, you will go out in joy!
And all the lilies of the valley will
ring their bells in worship.
