Light of the World

A Poem by Ali Noël

When darkness raps at my door

Rattling my fragile hopes

As midnight’s arrows assail me

Please, dissolve them, Lord

Who can know peace

Without having known its absence?

Evenstill, when Peace appears

We can be slow to trust you

You – holy babe

You – placed a candle in the grave

You – light of the world

To be overcome is not your nature

Ali Noël lives with her three young children in the rainy shadow of Mount Rainier. When she isn't spear-heading her first year of homeschooling or chasing her stubborn bulldog around the yard, you can find Ali whittling poetry and chipping away at her biblical fiction novel. Ali had a B.S. in Biblical Studies from Indiana Wesleyan University and is currently a poetry intern for Twenty Hills Publishing.
